3D Printed Orthotics Models

Independent Study for final year at RIT 2019

For my independent study, I focused on how orthotics, specifically AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthotics), could cause damage to a person's foot if sized incorrectly.

One specific case I looked into was with a public domain orthotic model boasting a design that avoided common boney pain points.  This model is shown above.

As a part of this study, I made a silicone foot, and saw how and where it would degrade against 3D printed orthotic models with simulated foot steps.

I also wrote a research paper about the evolution of orthotics from bracing to some of the interesting custom 3D modeling available today.
